The Human Engineer
Engineers are needed anywhere anytime!
The Dutch technical sector is facing severe shortages of technicians. These shortages pose a threat to the progress and speed of addressing necessary interventions for societal transitions, such as energy, agriculture, and healthcare transitions, as well as climate change.
A lot is already being done to encourage more young people to choose technical careers. The Platform Talent voor Technologie (PTvT) offers many practical programs, such as the National Growth Fund program Techkwadraat, Strong Technical Education for primary education, and the Technology Pact. VHTO focuses on increasing the participation of girls and women in STEM fields and IT, and the 4TU Federation is working with secondary education teachers and students to build an online education platform that provides plug-and-play lesson modules connecting school subjects, training skills, and inspiring interest in research and design.
Discover the human behind the engineer!
Engineering is not just about technical skills, but also about the passion and motivations that make each engineer unique. What drives young people to choose a career in engineering, and what fuels their innovations? Be surprised by the feature “The Human Engineer,” where our Fellows and Young Engineers offer insight into their personal considerations.
Each month, we publish four interviews.
