NAE provides (un)solicited authoritative, concrete and applicable advice on effective interdisciplinary systems approaches for society based on engineering-based innovation.
World-class knowledge pool
NAE’s ability to provide practically actionable advice on, for example, a course to follow around the energy or agriculture or healthcare transition is rooted in the deep and broad experience, track record and credibility of its members and their extensive network: a world-class knowledge base and talent pool. Short and executable
We aim for short, objective, executable and independent advice, looking at where it complements already existing advice from other Dutch advisory bodies.
Advice topics are proposed from members, third parties and the NAE Forum and Pivot Committees. We aim for synergy from all these angles; debate, advice and ultimately orchestrating action.
For the knowledge and innovation ecosystem
NAE’s advisory role is primarily addressed to the parties in the knowledge and innovation ecosystem. Secondary is our advisory role towards government departments and policies.
Addressing systemic improvements in the knowledge and innovation ecosystem.
Addressing major societal transitions is a broader joint task for all stakeholders in the ecosystem, supported by the government. Our advisory role focuses on ecosystem improvements. This involves improving the positive innovative impact of engineering in both science and industry. We identify opportunities and obstacles for engineering-based innovation, human-centred design and the engineering sciences to address transitions, and follow up with recommendations to the field.
Delve into specific strategic innovation topics.
More specific strategic innovation topics also fall within our scope. These include issues surrounding the crucial role of public-private partnerships as well as socio-economic issues in tackling major societal issues.
Independent
NAE applies strict principles regarding independence, objectivity and scientific foundation. In doing so, it subscribes to the principles formulated by the KNAW to avoid conflicts of interest.
